Mission & Values
We at the First Baptist Church see ourselves as the visible and local expression of God’s people. We hold this identity as God’s people because of what God has done for us through Jesus. We call this message of what God has done for us “The Gospel,” which means “good news.” You can find out more about this good news here.
In response to this good news, we see our MISSION as a church in three ways:
- First, we respond by reaching up. Because of who God is, what He has done, and what He promises to continue doing, we express praise and thankfulness to Him. Our upreach is seen as we gather together corporately and as we encourage each member to cultivate personal communion with God.
- Second, we respond by reaching in. Because of what God has done for us and to us, we commit ourselves to one another as church members. We look for ways to encourage one another, pray for one another, correct one another, teach one another, challenge one another, meet one another’s needs, rejoice with one another, and weep with one another.
- Third, we respond by reaching out. Because of what God has done for us, we are called to take that same kindness and love and mercy and grace to those in our community, those across our nation, and those around the world. This includes meeting physical needs, alleviating suffering, and advocating for justice, but our highest priority is to see people made right with God through the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
In fulfilling this mission, we hold to the following 7 core VALUES:
GOD’S WORD (2 Timothy 3:16) – we are rooted in the God-breathed Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, which are profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
GOSPEL (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) – we are centered on the message of what God has done to save sinners and restore the created order through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
GATHERING (Hebrews 10:24-25) – we are committed to assembling as a body for the purpose of worshiping God, proclaiming the gospel to each other, and stirring one another to love and good works.
GROWING (Ephesians 4:15-16) – we are expectant that as we speak the truth of the gospel and God’s word to one another, we will grow in Christlikeness, in unity, and in love.
GIVING (2 Corinthians 9:6-8) – we are convinced that God has given graciously and generously to us so that we might, in turn, give graciously and generously of our time, effort, finances, and abilities for the advance of the gospel and the work of ministry.
GOING (Matthew 28:18-20) – we are intentional in taking the message of grace that we have received outside the walls of the church, into our community and to the world, in word and in deed, for the purpose of making disciples of Jesus.
GLORY (1 Corinthians 10:31) – we are eager for everything we do to bring honor and fame to the person and the message of Jesus Christ.
